The TIPPACK

Following the completion of a successful pilot programme, we are proud to introduce an innovative and groundbreaking Trauma Informed Parenting Preparation Assessment Connected Kinship (TIPPACK) tool that will revolutionise the way in which Kinship Carers are assessed and supported throughout the United Kingdom.

Currently, there is a lack of consistency among local authorities in assessing Kinship Carers. This leads to inadequate support for these families. Often, an assessment starts when the child is already living with the Kinship Carers, and the legal route forward is unclear. Many Kinship Carers are forced to undergo multiple assessments.

The introduction of the TIPPACK addresses these issues and provides Kinship Carers with the essential information and resources they need, while also ensuring that local authorities have the necessary insights to determine whether the carers are equipped to meet the needs of the children in their care. It also identifies any gaps and signposts towards helpful training to close those gaps.

By standardising and streamlining the assessment process, this TIPPACK represents a significant step forward in improving the support and resources available to Kinship Carers.

Our commitment is prioritising the well-being and best interests of children who have suffered trauma, and to date, Kinship Care has been underfunded and under-supported in comparison to adoption and fostering services, despite the fact that more children are now placed in Kinship Care than are placed in foster and adoptive homes.

We are proud to be at the forefront of this transformative initiative, and we look forward to seeing the positive outcomes that will undoubtedly result from the implementation of this new tool. It is our hope that this will serve as a model for other regions and countries to follow, ultimately leading to a more comprehensive and effective support system for kinship carers and the children in their care.
